Breakin' vs Breakdancing

To whom it may concern,

This entry is in response to what the actual name of a dance we do is. The dance we share in common Breaking', Rockin', Goin off, (just a few names in which the dance was and is  referred to when people see the movements done in conjunction to the music)  originated before my existence. The  dance  is part of what was created ( HIP HOP) and continues to exist  to be a vehicle to bring people together with other elements  in our community that people could relate to because it is something commonly experienced.  Pioneers of this movement have created names for such actions, in this case the dance.  Accepted terminology for some of the movements have created a foundation for what I now do. I can claim to name the action of me moving one foot in front of the other standing upright as something else other than what it is formally known as  "walking". The same can be said with the name of the dance. In order to keep the integrity of the dance and its origins I refer to the dance as Breaking'. Through my experiences and conversations with elders, the commonalities of this topic are too many. Many people involved with the dance have said " The name of the dance was not originally called BREAKDANCING or BREAK DANCE. It was a name the media gave it." I don't know the true process of the naming of the dance we share in common. My point of view can understand the different ideas of what the name is or should be. To establish a supported foundation that incorporates the past with the present I refer to the dance as Breaking' and the terminology associated with practitioners of the dance as "Break" Boys and "Break" Girls.
